Learning Opportunities

Story Types

These include hand, stick and life-size puppets, flannel board stories, creative dramatics and mask stories, draw-and-cut stories, songs and finger plays, as well as picture books. A variety of familiar fairy tales are incorporated into each STORYTIME session, including Little Red Riding Hood, The Three Bears, The Three little Pigs, The Gingerbread Man, and Little Red Hen. Not as familiar, The Gunnywolf will soon become one of your child's favorite stories.A

A variety of seasonal and age-appropriate stories will be told during a STORYTIME session, and can also include holidays if desired. Holiday themes include Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanzaa, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter and Passover.

Religious Themes:

Christian stories emphasize the love of God and how important we are as individuals because of God's love. Stories also include biblical themes such as Noah's Ark and Christmas, Epiphany and Easter.

Jewish holiday stories include biblical themes such as Noah's Ark, Chanukah, Purim, Passover, and Tu-Bi-Shivat.

Child Participation

Children participate by either coming up as individuals to act out a story or by learning a portion of the story and then repeating that portion of the story from their seats in unison.

Puppet Backdrop— This is a time for the children to watch a short presentation using hand puppets. They will experience short music segments and jokes, and then have an opportunity to work the puppets as individual puppeteers.

Music is an integral part of each show. Children learn songs as well as listen to stories which incorporate songs. The Puppet Backdrop also includes songs with its presentation.
