WORKSHOP OUTLINE

Educational Aspects— One of the most valuable, easiest, and pleasurable activities you can expose children to is storytelling.

Presentation— The workshop participant will gain a wide knowledge of the techniques, types of stories and the "how to" of successful storytelling.

By telling a story, the teller is free to be creative and stay close to the audience. Storytelling is the surest way to develop a rapport and a personal relationship with the listeners.

The workshop will cover the three important aspects of successful storytelling:

• Techniques in telling a successful story

Participants will learn the importance of body language and voice inflection to make a story     "come alive" for children

• Types of stories to tell

Participants will learn the types of stories which lend themselves best to storytelling

• Media used in telling stories

Participants will learn the various ways in which a story can be told.
These include  flannel board, hand puppets, stick puppets, object talks, creative dramatics,    sound, cut mask and draw stories

Handouts:

• A puppet backdrop pattern which can be made and adapted to use in the classroom

• A list of reference books with suggested methods to use in storytelling

• A list of stories with adaptations to other forms of media
